How many self improvement books have you read and how many tapes on the same subject have you listened to over and over again? There’s a huge sellers market for self help in America. But, the fact is that nothing seems to last for long. If there are so many solutions why are we not making permanent changes in our lives? We leave a seminar with such enthusiasm to put our new found knowledge into practice, only to stay on track for a few weeks at best. Figuring out why this is the case and what to do about it can turn your life around.

Before we can make sweeping changes in our lives we have to make some minor changes within ourselves. The fact is that all of us have belief systems which effect us a great deal. The more you see yourself a certain way, the more you become that certain way. If you ever wondered why some people seem to have it easy, it’s simply because they see life as easy. They mentally see themselves successful at everything they do, and their internal navigation system attracts success their way naturally.

What you tell yourself about you determines the course your life will take. Who you are today was determined by what you believed about yourself yesterday. Each of us absorb thousands of thoughts and hours of self talk every single day of our lives. From earliest childhood, these thoughts and reflections have caged us into becoming what we have dwelled upon the most… Unfortunately, most of us consistently ponder the thoughts of a mouse, not the thoughts of a man or woman.

Our habitual thoughts program our navigation system, and our navigation system determines our course, direction and altitude to arrive at whatever destination we choose. In most cases we’re programmed by fear and scarcity, rather than by faith and abundance. If our self conversation continually insists that we have trouble sticking to a diet, you can be sure every diet will fail. If you see money as hard to get, your subconscious mind is doing everything in it’s power to turn your belief into reality.

Creating a new navigation system may seem a daunting task at first glance, but it’s simpler than reading a new book or going to another seminar, and far more effective. Take some time to notice how you talk to yourself. You will be appalled at first. Researchers now say that as much as 75% or our self talk is negative and counterproductive. Let’s put more of those odds in your favor. Begin with each specific thought that you recognize as unhelpful, and reverse that thought in your mind. You must be consistent and firm. Start focusing also on the mental images you have of yourself. These can be the most influential, as a mental image is worth far more than 1000 words. See yourself successful in areas you used to see yourself as a failure, and you will soon see your life starting to turn around. Good luck on your journey!

Do you ever have doubts? Fears? Insecurities? Do you avoid trying new things? You are not alone. Everyone has self doubt and insecurities whether they admit it or not. Self improvement can help you move past those doubts and fears and allow you to experience and enjoy your life more.

The world we live in today has pushed us to a place of envy, low self-esteem and lack of confidence. We are inundated with actors, models, professional athletes and millionaires telling us, showing us we aren’t good enough. Strangely enough, even when we see these same people going to rehab or prison, committing ******* or going bankrupt, we tend to judge them. Assuming they had everything and they just threw it all away when obviously what they had was the same as all the rest of us are faced with. Fears, doubts, low self esteem. Everybody’s life can always be better. Self Improvement can help with that and make our lives better.

A journey in self improvement of any kind will always improve your life and your experiences in some way. It may seem like just tiny little changes at first but all those tiny little changes add up and eventually you will find that you are a better person, enjoy life more and have less fear and doubt in your life.

The best thing that the path of self improvement can lead you to is self acceptance. It will help you to understand that you are a unique person in this world. No better, no worse than anyone else. Just different. Isn’t that amazing? No matter how pretty or smart someone else may be, there is one thing they can never be…you. Only you can do that and you can do that better than anyone else.

Once you learn to accept and love yourself for who you are, you will be a better person. A better friend, spouse, parent, employee. Another amazing thing happens also when you take a journey in self improvement yourself. You will begin to inspire others to begin their own journey to being a better person and conquering their fears. Imagine how you will feel when you see a family member or your child following in your footsteps and making their life better. Instead of teaching them fear and anxiety, by example you are teaching them acceptance and gratitude. What better reason could there be for improving your life.

When starting out the the area of self development and growth, one of the most important and basic skills to learn is the skill to deal with issues in your life.

Many sources often overlook the process of how to change. The process is long and hard, and often you will lose motivation and forget your goals for self improvement. While you may yearn for instant gratification and instant change, the reality is that it just wont happen overnight. Habits take a long time to form and break; deeper psychological issues that a long time to resolve.

Often when people deal with their issues, they’re dealing with it in a LOGICAL manner. This doesn’t motivate you because motivation is EMOTIONAL. When you feel emotionally affected towards the issue, you will have the drive to resolve the emotions. This is the basis for my model of dealing with issues.

Without further ado, here it is: Dealing with issues, the 4 steps.

1. Figure out what the issue is.

This first point is ridiculously obvious, but incredibly important and oftentimes looked over. In many instances, we believe that we’re dealing with one problem when in reality we’re actually facing problems with a deeper inner issue.

For example, in the world of dating and relationships, the actual act of meeting members of the opposite *** can be quite daunting. The possibility of rejection, the fear that they will dislike you is present. No one likes to think that they are incompetent with the opposite sex, and this is the issue that may arise and challenge them if they approach and get rejected. So they sit at the back of the bar with their friends talking about how they’re ‘pimps’ and ‘could pick up anyone in this bar’ but ‘they don’t want to’ because ‘no one here is worth it’.

What is happening here is an avoidance of the real issue: they depend on other’s approval and reactions to feel good about themselves. An issue of low self esteem and low self confidence.

This issue would not be realised without some serious hard thinking and the ability to see things for what they really are. Your mind and ego will throw up a million different cognitions to throw you off the real issue because the truth hurts your sense of self.

This first point is ridiculously simple yet hard to realize.

2. Experience the issue.

This is different. I swear by this technique 100%.

When you figure out what the issue is, it’s going to try and hide. It’s going to throw up excuses as to why you have those cognitions. You’re going to want to avoid the issue. Yeah that’s right, you know what I’m talking about. This is the nerd realising that they **** with women but rationalising it as due to their studies or the fact that they “don’t have time”, then using that as a constant excuse not to GO OUT and MEET women. Or the woman who has emotional issues that affect her relationships but blames her relationship problems on her looks.

By experience the issue I mean to feel it fully. You KNOW it’s there, you aren’t going to avoid it. You just broke up with your partner? It feels crap. Don’t avoid having the feelings. You’re scared of chatting up that cutie? Don’t avoid the issue. Immerse yourself in the experience of feeling like that.

Only then do you have a solid base for your motivation to get the problem fixed.

3. Act on resolving the issue

After experiencing the feelings that you don’t want to feel, make a decision to ACT upon the issues. After all, just pointlessly making yourself feel bad is… pointless. So what did you do? Make a commitment to take steps forward in solve the issue. If you’re afraid that people will ‘reject’ you then approach people until you emotionally realise that ‘rejection’ by a stranger means nothing more than the fact that you approached them in the wrong way. If you’re avoiding exercise because of an underlying issue of laziness, get out there and exercise! Do you actually WANT to be unhealthy? How does being unhealthy feel?

Experiencing the issue should give you the MOTIVATION to ACT on the issue. If you don’t act, you’ll just stay the same. Do you really want to feel the way you felt when you were experiencing the issue? I doubt it.

4. Figure out your other issues

In self improvement, it is critical to remember that your problems will NEVER end and you will ALWAYS have issues to deal with. Reality is harsh.

If you’re serious about improving yourself, keeping this in mind will help you a lot. You will always have something to fix. Take a break once in a while, moderate how much you work on yourself, but never forget that you always have something to improve. Read “The way of the superior man” by David Deida. It gives a good description of this point.

If you’re serious about improving yourself, keeping this in mind will help you a lot. You will always have something to fix. Take a break once in a while, moderate how much you work on yourself, but never forget that you always have something to improve. Read “The way of the superior man” by David Deida. It gives a good description of this point.
