There are lots of self-improvement advice available, but which ones are the best? Everyone would want to know what the best-kept secrets are to improving the self. All you have to do is to look in the right places.

A really good self-improvement advice is discipline! Discipline does not mean you lose freedom. One habit down means you get tenfold the benefit. It all depends on how much you are actually willing to let go of some things so you can gain something that would benefit your life more.

Now start by actually starting something! Whenever you are procrastinating, it is important to take a deep breath and avoid thinking negative thoughts. These negative thoughts can affect the way you do whatever you need to be done.

The next step is to try to enjoy what you are doing. Do you remember a time when you started on a hobby and you were able to stay up all night doing it? You can always find ways to motivate yourself to do something. You can think about the reward you’re going to get at the end of the day, whether it is money, personal satisfaction, or something you are willing to do for yourself.

Another unique self-improvement advice is to visualize. This may sound so simple to do, but it is definitely effective. Visualization is the process of making a mental image with the goal of rebooting the mind. Visualization is based on the knowledge that the mind has a powerful effect on the body.

Visualizing can help you actualize what you tell yourself: “I can do this!” The first step is to fully relax yourself by imagining all muscles beginning to contract from your forehead down to your shoulders until your toes. The next step is to imagine you are crossing something like a bridge, to indicate to yourself that you are crossing over to your subconscious. You may then imagine the desired outcome of reaching your goals. The final step is to imagine that you have already reached that desired outcome.

A similar self-improvement advice is to try hypnosis. A therapist can help you with this. During a normal mental state, many individuals will not be able to admit certain bad habits. When you subconsciously face what needs to be improved in your life, you will have gotten rid of those negative habits you were never even aware.

The final self-improvement advice is meditation. This is very linked to the previous techniques mentioned. When you are trying to improve yourself and caught up in a roller coaster ride at the same time, meditation can help you clear your mind. A clearer mind means you’ll be able to focus more on yourself and what you really want out of life.

To meditate, keep away from distraction and take long deep breaths while releasing all tense muscles. Mentally ask questions regarding who you really are. Ask yourself what you like to do, what made you proud of yourself, how content you really are in life and what is more important to you, and try to answer these questions everyday with actions.

Any self-improvement advice will only be effective if you are determined to change. You are your own boss when it comes to self-improvement. So be open to possibilities as much as possible!

A self-improvement process is as old as human kind, albeit not necessarily formal in the beginning. In today’s world self-improvement programs, lectures, workshops, videos, CD, DVD, books, etc. is a $9.6 billion a year business, according to a study conducted by Marketdata Enterprises, Inc. The study analyzed profiles of 40+ top motivational speakers/gurus from Deepak Chopra to TV personality and former Psychologist, Phil McGraw, PhD, popularly known as Dr. Phil.

If your self-improvement quest is to shed five pounds or change an annoying habit, it is easy. However, making deep inner changes that bring you to happiness, contentment and success is a challenging undertaking.

To make changes on a deep emotional or physical level, you need to do an inspection through introspection, and this needs to be done from a neutral perspective. It is important to drop the labels and the old programs that you run about yourself in order to see what is truly there. This can be particularly difficult if your self-esteem is going through a rough period, as you might only see your negative aspects, then pile up so many things to improve that change looks nearly impossible.

Going deep within to find what is causing the pain, disease, distress needs to be done only with the help of a professional, who has the skills to help you process everything while staying balanced. No improvement will occur if the introspection process leaves you discouraged and depressed. If your intention to improve is sincere and serious, you will be able to find the starting place and go about it gently and steadily.

If you want to use only self-help methods, it is best to start by improving the things that are already strengths. If you have an interest for writing, for example, develop it. Take a writing class. When you are confident in your writing skills submit some of your work to publications, which accept new authors. Or submit articles on-line to Web sites, such as EzineArticles.com; helium.com; searchwarp.com and Qondio.com. Helium and Qondio allow contributors to evaluate each other’s writing and give tips how to improve. There are many writing and poetry contests on the Internet. Submit your work and enjoy the rewards. Start a blog. There are many free blog sites and social networks that allow blogging/article posting. Last, but not least, write a novel or non-fiction book.

If you enjoy speaking join a Toastmaster’s group to hone your presentation skills. Promote yourself to organizations. Many organizations are seeking inexpensive, or pro bono, yet, skilled speakers.

If you enjoy cooking, take cooking classes to improve your skills. It is fun to learn about food preparation and presentation. Invite friends to sample your creations to give you feedback. Over the years I have been invited to many dinners by people, who are honing their cooking skills. I have enjoyed the experience as much as going to a good restaurant.

Beginning with your good traits and fine-tuning them will add to your confidence, increase your self-esteem, help you meet new people and give you satisfaction in your improvements.

Deep self-improvement requires time and commitment. For those who sincerely want to make improvements, you will learn quickly that it is well-worth the effort.

While the cliché that deep self-improvement takes many years, it is not unfounded, when traditional talk therapy is the modality.

The most effective modality is holistic healing vis-a-vis the subconscious mind facilitated through a hypnotic trance. It is a process that begins with discovering the source of the pain, disease, distress and the healing takes place as the process unfolds. A holistic process is gentle, persistent, and thorough, thus improvement in one area improves the whole.

There is a plethora of scientific proof that all emotional and physical diagnosis from A to Z (Abdominal pain to Zits and everything in between) can be healed with a holistic approach–mind. body, spirit. Ask me.

Self-improvement is a billion dollars a year industry. When the pie is that big, we can expect some hands that are not snow-white reach for it. We can expect scandals, misrepresentations, exaggerated claims and whole panoply of wild and crazy statements.

Every Tom, **** and Harry with a bit of imagination is trying to strike big and make tons of money. To do that, these would-be Gurus know that they have to get known and the best way to get that publicity is by doing or saying something that is outlandish, that defies the imagination or makes them look as if they are the anointed ones who have just found the secret.

That state of affair is nothing new. It’s been going on for ages. Sects were and still are formed. The hypes are getting more and more sophisticated and the prices charged to attend “special” events have reached astronomical proportions.

Even serious medias have found a way to get into the act and making money by exploiting this unsavory side of the Self-improvement world. All this is enough to leave the neophytes in the self-help movement a bit perplex and uncertain.

Here then are a few bits of advice that could help you if you’re just starting out on a quest of self-improvement and self-actualization.

The first thing that you should know is that there are no magic bullets. Improving the mind is like improving the physical body. The results are directly proportional to the efforts made. Real and lasting improvements only follow patient and sustained work.

Real Self-improvement is not about learning new tricks or slick techniques; it’s about transforming your character, your way of thinking and the way that you see the world. It’s about shedding self-sabotaging beliefs and replacing them with dynamic and empowering ones.

It could be said that self-improvement is about character building. Being successful and effective is important but being a person of substance and integrity is even more important for the simple reason that we experience life through who we are and not through what we have.

Self-improvement depends more on the state of mind than on the information assimilated. A person who is eager to learn, grow and take action could find all the information necessary in one or two classic books on the subject.

On the other hand, anyone looking for the silver bullet, the secret formula or the perfect “get rich quick” scheme can spend an entire life studying self-improvement and not get too much out of it.

Self-improvement is an active process and not a passive one. It’s more about changing than about learning. It’s about discovering what it is that we should change in our life and working hard to affect that change. In some specific cases, the learning part could take as little as a few minutes whereas the transformation itself could take years.

All the basics of self-improvement can be found in three books: 1) Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins 2) Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and 3) The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.

With these three books and twenty to thirty minutes of daily studies, in less than a year, you will know all that you need to know to reach as high as you ever want to go… providing you apply what you learn.

Tony Robbins, Brain Tracy, Robert Kiyosaki, and dozens of other self improvement gurus are willing to give you advice on almost every aspect of your life. Many people have a favorite self improvement guru they follow, while others have found a different way to take advantage of all the gurus.

The self improvement market is very large and lucrative. It seems at times almost anyone can get a book published dispensing their advice on what’s wrong with your life, and how you should live it.

This can be of great advantage to you because due to the competitiveness of the market you can find lots of free and cheap information put out there.

Many people get confused about which self improvement guru to follow. And you will see lots of message boards where people spend time arguing about who is the better guru. Well you don’t have to follow just one person’s advice for your life; you should take a little bit of advice from lots of gurus.

The best way to structure your self improvement schedule is to mix and max gurus. Simple take the best of each one, the parts of their books and programs you feel make the most sense to you and use them.

It’s hard to find a person where you agree with 100% of the advice they give. For instance Tony Robbins gives advice on your health, relationships, and finances. I don’t agree with most of what he says, but he does have great insight into some areas and has some valuable self improvement exercises to do. So I just take what I like and leave the rest and move onto the next guru.

By mixing and matching self improvement gurus you can take only the best advice that is offered out there. Remember that at different stages of your life, different people might have more relevant information than others to help get you through certain stages of your life.
