<p>Throughout our lives we all constantly face problems that can be caused either by events beyond our control our through our own decisions. The way we deal with these setbacks will have a great impact on our Self Improvement and success.</p>
<p>It can be very easy to become disheartened and discouraged. Setbacks can dent our confidence and make us question our beliefs. Sometimes we can even feel there is no alternative but to give up on our plans and goals.</p>
<p>However, it&#8217;s critical to remember that it is not the actual obstacles and problems themselves that determine our results. What really matters is how we react and respond to our obstacles and problems.</p>
<p>Highly successful people have just as many problems as anyone else, but usually react to them differently to other people. They have the ability to turn their problems into challenges or even opportunities. There is something to be gained from almost every problem we encounter. If we maintain an optimistic attitude no matter what happens, it is usually possible to find something positive in any event, if we will look hard enough.</p>
<p>There is one thing that we can be guaranteed to gain &#8211; experience. Very often what may seem a disaster at the time can turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to us. It can cause us to rethink our plans and often leads us to our greatest successes.</p>

<p>Imagine you are building a house. The first and most important step is to start with a strong foundation. A good foundation will support the structure of the house; a bad foundation will cause endless problems with the stability of the structure. The same thing applies to our own foundations. If we do not have a healthy strong foundation, everything that we try to build on top of it is going to topple down.</p>
<p>Self-Esteem, Self-Confidence, and Self-Image make up the foundation of self. Low self-esteem, lack of self-confidence or negative self-image can weaken and destroy our foundation. A fragile foundation hinders self-improvement and goal obtainment because as we try and try we see our efforts collapse. The connection between the amount of success that we see in our lives is in proportion to how healthy or unhealthy our sense of self is.</p>
<p>Self- Esteem is the sense of one&#8217;s worth or value. It is the opinion or judgment of yourself and the measure of self-respect and pride that you have for yourself. People that have low self-esteem do not hold themselves a high regard. They are often people pleasers that neglect their own needs for the needs of others. Low self-esteem prevents a person from accomplishing goals in their lives because on either a conscious or an subconscious level they do not really believe they are worthy. Individuals that have low self-esteem might engage in acts of self-sabotage to make their belief that they are not worthy of success a reality, not only in their own minds, but in their physical reality as well.</p>
<p>Self-confidence is the belief in yourself and your abilities. Low self-confidence often keeps people from going after their goals because they do not believe they have the skills or abilities to succeed. This often creates a self-fulfilling prophecy, if you don&#8217;t think you can then you won&#8217;t, no matter what steps you employ. Lack of belief in your abilities will prevent most people from even attempting to go after their goals or to give up too quickly.</p>
<p>Self-Image is the overall concept or metal image of yourself and your assessment of your qualities. This is simply what you think of yourself, do you consider yourself as a good person or a bad person. How do you define yourself? When you think about your traits do only see the bad? How do you describe yourself to others? These are all questions to consider when figuring out if your self-image is positive or negative. An unhealthy self-image impacts your overall feelings of worth which inhibits self-improvement and growth.</p>
<p>These three foundation blocks are interconnected. A low self-esteem is usually going to result in low self-confidence and poor self-image. In turn, having a negative self-image contributes to your low self-esteem and lack of self-confidence. The three work together to form the foundation of self, a trouble in one area leads to issues in the remaining two; making the urgency to work on the areas that need improvement even more critical.</p>
<p>The best way to keep your foundation strong is to first and foremost realize your worth, know that you are a good person and that you deserve success in your life. If you really do not believe that, you start with changing the way you think. Daily affirmations are an effective way to change negative thoughts connected with your image, esteem, and confidence. By telling yourself positives, you are through repetition retraining yourself to think differently about yourself.</p>
<p>Changing the way that you talk to yourself is another way to strengthen your foundation. Most people with low sense of self, engage in negative self talk and are very critical of themselves. Being aware of how you talk to yourself and making the switch from negative to positive can really change the way you think and feel about yourself. It also improves the relationship that you have with yourself, promoting self-love and better insights into yourself.</p>
<p>By thinking of yourself as being worthy and deserving of success in all areas of your life, you are removing limiting thinking. Our thoughts help create the realities in our lives. By believing in yourself, you are creating and maintaining the healthy sense of self that is going to help you flourish.</p>

<p>The term self improvement is a bit misleading and is sometimes erroneously interrupted. What do you really improve? You don&#8217;t improve your &#8220;self&#8221; and you don&#8217;t improve your &#8220;spirit&#8221;. You learn to develop certain skills that can help you go through life. You learn to look at things from a different, broader viewpoint, and you learn to forego limiting thoughts and habits.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t improve something that does not exist in you. You improve and develop some skills that are already in you, but are weak, in a dormant state, or negatively expressed.</p>
<p>Self improvement is actually not &#8220;Improving yourself&#8221;, so much as changing your point of view, changing the way you look at yourself and the world, and strengthening and developing certain skills.</p>
<p>Self improvement is about developing: <br /> Stronger willpower. Better self discipline. Better concentration. Some degree of emotional and mental detachment. More patience. More tolerance. Getting rid of negative or weakening habits and developing new ones. Learning to think more positively. Learning to be more kind and loving.  <br />This is a partial list of the aims of self improvement.</p>
<p><strong>Improvement requires work</strong></p>
<p>The important point to remember is that everything worthwhile in life needs some effort and time to gain. There is no instant improvement or development of any skill. There are books and programs that promise immediate success, and there are many who buy them, thinking that these books or programs will immediately change their life. People expect and look for some kind of a miracle to change their life instantly, and often get disappointed when this does not happen.</p>
<p>There are many you buy books, but never read them. Some start practicing a certain technique or program and then stop after a short while. In order to get results from self improvement books, programs and techniques you need to practice day after day. You have to study, work and train yourself the same way if you wanted to be a doctor, a pilot, an engineer or an Olympic athlete. This is something most people won&#8217;t do, because they consider it too much work.</p>
<p>Some might ask, &#8220;Will my life improve, if I practice some &#8220;self improvement&#8221; techniques?&#8221; Anything you do to develop positive habits and skills will help you handle your life and circumstances in a better and more successful way.</p>
<p>Sometimes, when people finally decide to be more practical then just reading a book and expecting miracles, they find that there are obstacles on their path, and if they don&#8217;t posses enough inner strength, they might drop the whole idea.</p>
<p>When starting anything new, one often becomes more aware of problems and obstacles. They are not new. They were there all the time, but because you want to make changes you become more aware of them. Don&#8217;t let them daunt your spirit. If you continue, they will get weaker in time, and you will be able to ignore them and overcome them.</p>

<p>If thinking big is so easy then don&#8217;t more people do it? By thinking big all your problems will seem smaller, the air you breathe will be fresher, and food will taste better!</p>
<p>If you are like me almost everyday I hear people talking down about themselves and settling for less than what they could accomplish. For many people it is our own mind that is telling us this. In order to change this you need to change your negative conditioning and start thinking big.</p>
<p>For most people they have so little, what would they loose if they thought big and tried something new? If you have nothing to loose, why not go for it all? Some of you may be thinking, well I do have some things to loose if this thinking big does not work out. For most people they don&#8217;t want to quit their job to start their own business. Look at all the jobs available right now. If you try and fail you can easily get another job again, and you are right back where you are now.</p>
<p>For most people what they are clinging on to is actually not that important and can be replaced easily, so let go and start thinking big. If you want to stay in your career path then start thinking about how to advance more rapidly, don&#8217;t accept company norms for advancement, jump ahead of people.</p>
<p>You know people right now how are a lot richer and more successful than you. You probably also know that some of these people are not smarter than you. So why did these people get richer? They most likely thought big and took action, and took a leap of faith.</p>
<p>Start today and start thinking big, take action, and don&#8217;t stop until you reach your goal.</p>

<p><strong>&#8220;People seldom improve when they have no other model but themselves to copy after.&#8221; Goldsmith</strong></p>
<p>The subject of my note today is Self Improvement. In discussing this subject I&#8217;d love to look at the word KAIZEN. Kaizen is a Japanese management term referring to constant, continuous and never-ending improvement. Anthony Robbins calls this concept CANI that stands for: &#8220;Constant And Never Ending Improvement.&#8221; Kaizen is a way of life. It is constant improvement in every aspect of your life. You have a built-in mechanism to grow and to improve. Therefore, ascertaining how to improve your relationship, your knowledge, your attitude, your goals and goal-setting strategies, leadership skills and time management should be your daily responsibility. Experts in the field of human development say that everything can be improved on by at least ten per cent.</p>
<p>There is no pursuit more venerable than the pursuit of self-improvement. Self-improvement as aforementioned, begins with your born again spirit, your mind, as you consistently renew it with God&#8217;s word. Everything is capable of being improved, even if only incrementally. The concept of continuous improvement can literally be applied to every aspect of your personal and professional life. Consistent and constant pursuit of improvement in all areas of your life is indispensable in the attainment of your true potential. Hence improving daily, whether by spending some time exercising, reading, visualizing or forging better relationships, you are making regular deposits and evolving toward a desired attainable end.</p>
<p>The personal mark of almost every high achiever and successful people is a daily dedication to improvement in both personal and professional lives. To be effective, you have to do things daily and consistently and not haphazardly to advance congruently in the direction of your goals, ultimate purpose and destiny.</p>
<p>It is fundamental to apply the Kaizen or CANI principle on a consistent basis to every component of your life from spiritual to physical, business to family to attain peak performance as you migrate toward your desired end.</p>

<p>Building self esteem is vitally important for everyone. Being adult, child or teenager, self image is the foundation. No one wants to be the person who can&#8217;t ask questions or is too shy to say something of value. So how do we improve our self esteem?</p>
<p>Firstly as parents we hold a very important role in this sphere. The way we relate to our kids will impact them for life. Yes a very scary but true fact. The more encouraging we are to our children, the more we allow them to learn from their mistakes and the less we put out kids down, the better their self esteem will be. A child who is constantly being put down and belittled will eventually doubt their own capabilities which in turn will crush their desire to try new things for fear of failure.</p>
<p>Teenagers go through a rough time. Their bodies are changing and consciously and subconsciously they need to learn how to deal with this. Some will embrace the changes and run with it and will be incredibly popular amongst their peers, enjoying the attention received, whilst others will have a much harder time. Those that struggle with the changes could be very uncomfortable with their peers for a very long time.</p>
<p>It truly is amazing to note how many adults lack self esteem. This may be caused from childhood or it could be a result of an ugly divorce, lack of job or loss of job or generally life not going in the right direction. Generally adults do not like changes, and when necessary do not always have an easy time accepting them. This in turn can cause them to doubt themselves and have a low self image.</p>
<p>Raising your self image is not easy. It&#8217;s definitely a mind game. You need to change your outlook on life, your perspective of yourself and then take action. You need to think more positively, I can do it, I will be able to do it &#8211; POSITIVE THINKING.</p>
<p>Instead of focusing on what you think people don&#8217;t like about you, think about what your good qualities are and how to enhance them. Many times what you think people think about you is far from the reality!</p>
<p>Give yourself a pampering session. Most times we are so involved in worrying and taking care of others that we don&#8217;t spend enough time on ourselves. I know that seems a little indulgent, but yes we all need a little bit of me time, a little spoiling and pampering. This in itself can push your self esteem to new levels. Think about it when you feel good about yourself you project it onto others!</p>

<p>&#8220;Go ahead and close your eyes. You are going into a hypnotic state. Every time I say the word, &#8216;deeper,&#8217; you will go deeper and deeper into a state of deep relaxation. You will relax into a comfortable state of hypnotic awareness.</p>
<p>&#8220;Now pay attention to the top of your head and go deeper and deeper, more and more relaxed. Allow your head to go limp and relaxed. And go deeper into hypnosis. As you go deeper, pay attention to the muscles around your eyes. Relax those muscles. Get more and more relaxed, more and more at ease. Relax your ****** muscles. Let them go loose and limp. Go deeper and deeper. Relax.</p>
<p>&#8220;Now pay attention to your shoulders and allow your shoulders to relax as you go deeper and deeper. The deeper you go, the more you&#8217;ll relax. Focus on your left arm and let the muscles in that arm go loose and limp. As they relax, go deeper and deeper into hypnosis. Allow yourself to drift deep and comfortably into hypnosis. Now let your right arm go completely limp. Allow your limp right arm to lead you deeper and deeper into a hypnotic state.</p>
<p>&#8220;How pay attention to your stomach, chest, and back. Let them go loose, limp, and completely relaxed. Go deeper and deeper into hypnosis.</p>
<p>&#8220;Now let your hips and buttocks go loose and limp. Focus your attention on your left leg. Relax the muscles of your left leg. Go deeper into hypnosis. Focus your attention on your right leg, and let your right leg relax completely. Go deeper into that wonderful feeling of hypnotic relaxation. Relax your feet and ankles. Let them go loose, limp, and completely relaxed.</p>
<p>&#8220;Now you&#8217;re in a deeply relaxed state. Let your unconscious mind remind you of a pleasant scene, some pleasant place you feel safe and comfortable. When you remember that safe comfortable place, your unconscious mind is learning to make you feel that safe and comfortable in all areas of your life. You are becoming more and more comfortable, and you feel completely safe and relaxed.&#8221;</p>

<p>1. A good self help hypnosis session should start with a prep phase in which you create an intention for the session. You also set up your safety statements.</p>
<p>Because hypnosis can take you into a deep state of relaxation, you want to know that you&#8217;ll be alert enough if an emergency comes up. The prep phase includes this statement, &#8220;If an emergency arises, I will recognize it immediately and be instantly alert and ready to do whatever I need to do to deal with the crisis.&#8221;</p>
<p>This is also where you set the time limit for your session. Most hypnosis experts recommend a 15 to 30 minutes session, but once you get proficient at self help hypnosis, you may only need 5 minutes. State that after X amount of time, you will come out of your hypnotic state.</p>
<p>2. After this prep phase, you go into the pre-hypnotic suggestion phase. This is where you state your positive goal for the session. You should have it written down, and you read it 5 to 10 times. Fill your mind up with the suggestion. Don&#8217;t just fill up with the words. Focus on the meaning behind them. This becomes like a little red light that lights up and is the START light for your session. It becomes the dominant idea as you go into hypnosis.</p>
<p>Before you get to this point, you want to have created the suggestion you&#8217;ll use. This needs to be a positive goal that&#8217;s crafted in a specific way. I highly recommend you invest in a training program that will assure you optimally create your goals and do the steps I&#8217;m setting out here. At the bottom of this article, I provide a link to a page that tells you more about a program that will turn you into such a master hypnotist that you&#8217;ll be able to use your skills not just on you but on everyone you know. It will transform all your relationships, both personal and professional.</p>
<p>3. Now it&#8217;s time to induce a trance. To do this, use eye fixation.</p>
<p>Chose a spot and focus on that spot with total intensity. You&#8217;ll find the muscles around your eyes will strain a little to get the microscopic focus on that spot, and when you feel hat strain, allow the muscles to relax. Then your vision will soften, and you&#8217;ll see more and more of your surroundings. You&#8217;re activating your peripheral vision, and this is important because peripheral vision is tied to the relaxation response. Doing this stimulates your relaxation response.</p>
<p>Once your vision expands, notice breathing will shift and become slower. This indicates that your relaxation response has been triggered. Now you can close your eyes.</p>
<p>4. Drift in the hypnotic trance. In this state, you can simply watch your thoughts, or you can visualize yourself doing what you want to achieve. Just allow your unconscious to do what it needs to do.</p>
<p>5. You&#8217;ll get a feeling it&#8217;s time to return. You may hear a little voice telling you that your time is up. Notice your legs and arms and hands and feet. Take deep breaths and come back into your body.</p>
